I personally had this myself until I took a step back and really thought about what my goals were and where I was headed. I did my research and found what was conducive to what I wanted in an opportunity and what I was willing and able to do to make it work.
The Shiny Object Syndrome is simply a distraction. As marketers we are motivated to start new projects and new things but how often do we finish them. This result in starting an opportunity, seeing another presentation and now wanting to join it. Thats why many marketers jump from opportunity to opportunity.
The Shiny Object Syndrome keeps you from reaching your full potential. When you start a new opportunity there’s a learning curve you have to get pass but you can’t if you keep starting over. Same thing when it come to marketing strategies. You see how someone is marketing and see the results they’re getting and you think that’s the strategy that’s going to get the results you want. Again there’s a learning curve to get pass. You see a new tool to use in you marketing and want to implement it. When you share new opportunities, strategies and tools regularly with your team it causes confusion and duplication can’t be done because some if not most of your team will get overwhelmed.
How To Avoid The Shiny Object Syndrome
Staying in touch with what’s going on the the industry is good so I’m saying completely ignore new things but to find an opportunity, find 2-3 strategies and tools to stick with until you master them.
On social media you’ll come across many shiny objects everywhere. They’re going to seem bigger and better than they actually are, that’s marketing and hype to make the new thing look better. New doesn’t mean better.
How many newsletters and youtube channels are you subscribed too? How many people are you following? Are you following people using strategies you do or want to learn? Looking for ideas to add to your tactics is good but changing your tactic will keep you from mastering them. Find 2-3 people that you resinate with to follow.
If you found value is the post, please feel free to share with your team and on social media.
